October 23, 2009, Newsletter Issue #1: Underwater Sculpture Garden

Tip of the Week

Hidden below 15 feet of water in Molinere Bay, Granada stands the world’s first underwater sculpture garden. The sculpture garden covers 8611 square feet inside of a National Marine Park, in an area that has suffered from severe storm damage. The park contains 65 sculptures, all created by Jason de Caires Taylor. Taylor’s sculptures are strategically placed to make a statement about modern art and the environment while serving as artificial reefs for marine life at the same time.

The sculptures are made to withstand currents, and are shallow enough to be enjoyed by divers, snorkelers, and passengers aboard glass bottom boats.
